You may not see it now, but you will and there will be amazing dr.'s and therapists that will help you realize your goals - aim high - don't let anything hold you back. I have seen some amazing things over the years and know that I will hear about you doing amazing things as well.

Matt,

My name is Benjamin Acevedo and I moved to MA with my wife and kids to be able to save our daugter Paulina's life. This was over 4 years ago and I have to say that thanks to the wonderful people and the amazing resources available at Children's she is thriving and has been out of the hospital for almost 2 years. She still has a tough life ahead of her but has the spirit of a warrior and a heart of gold(she just turned 5). Today I told her about your story and she kept saying, "tell me more, tell me more". She will actually take $2 of her own piggy bank to join the incredible group of people that are giving you a hand. Today she was oficially registered at the Willet School for Kindergarden. Her brothers Miguel and Daniel attend 2nd and 5th grade at Prescott.
I can easily tell that you are a very strong young man, I see a little bit of Paulina in you. You have a lot of people by your side, keep up with the smiles and good sense of humor, this, together with the Love and Faith of many will help you heal a lot faster.
Our best wishes to you and your family!!

The Acevedo Family (Graciela, Benjamin, Daniel, Miguel, Paulina and soon to be born, Isabella)

PS. The boys will probably miss the march on March 3rd because we will be waiting for the arrival of Isabella, our 4th child.

Good Afternoon Matt!

Last night at the Weymouth Hockey game, the announcer asked the entire rink to yell and cheer as LOUD as possible for you, MATT BROWN! WOW...it was loud! Probably the first time that I banged my hands against the board to make noise like everyone else! It gave me goosebumps! And then I made sure my entire family was outfitted with MB#3 buttons and yellow bracelets. We all have them now and proudly wear them.

My sister, Lauren, told me that you are leaving shortly for Atlanta. That is great news and I am praying today for a safe trip and will pray during this next phase of your recovery is quick. I know it wont be easy and there will be "bumps in the road"

We hit the same bumps when my now 13 year old daughter couldn't walk a few months after her spine surgery. I know there were times she would stand on her feet, become wobbly and her legs would give out and we were sad BUT the therapist said "that is a great thing...don't be sad, be happy!" So we learned over the course of 4 months to take the little victories as HUGE victories because all the little ones add up to one BIG one. She is now in the playoffs for her basketball team and back in school full time... the only problem we have is that she uses her past injuries as an excuse to get out of chores- - one that you can use too!!!

Love to mom,dad,sister and you!

Forever in our hearts and our minds,

Hey Matt --- I know its going to be strange not having all your family there in Atlanta with you - but I can assure you, you will be surrounded by Southern Hospitality - and there is nothing like it.

I love who ever has set up this website for you - they need to start their own business doing this for all who are hospitalized -what a great way to end being bored !

Can you ask whoever is handling your website to set up a "post a comment" section for your mom and one for your dad (and maybe your sister) - as it will be important for all of you to have support - as individuals.

I have to say this website has been very impressive - and I thank you and your family for sharing you and your progress. We all need to be reminded that this is what life is about, sharing and caring.

Your one cool dude !

Here's a saying I used to tell my son when he was little, Reach High, Reach Far, Touch the Sky and Be a Star ..... although we might not always feel pleasant about the journey, and we feel uneasy about the unknown plan I can assure you the man upstairs is guiding your way - take a deep breath and just let it happen - as eventually the clouds will clear and you will know your way ..... give your mom a kiss and your dad a smile.

and Welcome to the South - if you have never experienced it - hang on !

Although I no longer live there - I missed it everyday - thanks 10,000 times over for sharing with us - Like I said before your one cool dude !

Hi Matt,

I saw on your mom’s FaceBook status that you had some good progress over the past few days. I, like so many others, am so happy to hear that. While you’ve got a lot of work ahead of you, each victory, not matter how small, is something to celebrate. Knowing you as long as I have and knowing how you approach challenges (with lots of determination and of course that crazy sense of humor) I know that in the end, you will be victorious. New reports are always filled with bad news and stories about bad people. I’ve got to say, that in the past few weeks, my faith in humanity has been restored. Never have I seen a community come together to support one of “their own”. Norwood is an amazing place with incredibly supportive and caring people. The hockey community is amazing, not just in Norwood, but around the country. No matter where I go Matt, no matter what town, people know about you and are so caring and supportive. On a lighter note, I remember you being #2 all throughout Youth Hockey. I was thinking the other day as I saw all these WeLoveNumber3 signs, that I’m glad you changed numbers once you went to varsity. WeLoveNumber2 just sounds really awkward.
Love you Matt! Lori Alighieri

**UPDATE** - 2/20/10 - Hello from Atlanta. Our thanks to the men and women of Medflight who brought Matt to Atlanta - Boston Air Charter, you ROCK! Matt is in the ICU here at Shepherd Center and will stay until Monday. He will then transfer to the regular floor and begin his PT routine. He has told us he likes it and the people we have met and the Doctors and Nurses who are caring for him are fantastic. Most of the focus has been on diet(getting solid food into Matt's diet) and breathing. He has been up in a wheelchair for 2 hours, been breathing on his own for up to 45 minutes and has been introduced to "sip and puff" controls. We'll continue to update here and his website! Thanks to all! Michael, Sue, Matt & Kelley

I visited Matt on Saturday at Shepherd Spinal Center. He had just been moved to a new room near some other teenagers. The move tired him out, but we got to talk for a few minutes before he took a nap. He says he misses everybody, especially his "best friend" Kelley. I work at Coca-Cola here in Atlanta, so I brought him some Coke things and told him the nurses would check his room every day to make sure he didn't have any Pepsi in there, because we don't do Pepsi in Atlanta! Matt thought that was pretty funny.

Hi Matty-
Our son plays for Stonehill College and wears #3. We were at an away rink last weekend and noticed his HOME jersey hanging behind the visitors bench very prominently. I was wondering what he had done wrong and then found out it was a tribute to you pal! They were at the same rink for a playoff game this past weekend with your #3 shirt hanging in the same spot. Unbelievable comeback by Stonehill. Down 4-0 with 8 minutes left in GAME. They pulled off a minor miracle by scoring 4 goals in about 8 minutes and then a shorthanded goal in OT to win it. You are an inspiration to my son (who has had to battle some minor injuries of his own to get back in line up) and the whole team. Miracles do happen buddy. Keep your faith in God close to you and believe in yourself. I hear you are an amazing young man with a great sense of humor. Keep smiling and believing. We believe in you.

You were part of the best group of young men and hockey players that I have seen. Everyone can't wait until you get home... We know that you've got notes from many hockey players and athletes, but now supermodels - everyone is in your corner.
